Today's News

Yesterday was another scorching hot day, but I still enjoyed my cardio a lot. I put in around 12 miles on my bike with a nice mix of fast road riding and some HIIT-ish off-road action. I also made a third unsuccessful attempt at a Geocache that continues to elude me. I record all my bike rides on my GoPro HD camera, but I have not put together a video yet this month so I decided to assemble one yesterday. You can view the video below, or check out a bigger HD version in my journal.

Not shown in the video is a fairly steep, grassy hill that I found a couple of weeks ago. The climb is probably about a 1/4 mile in length and somewhere around a 45-50 degree angle. It's a pretty tough climb under the best of circumstances, but yesterday there was a smokey fire somewhere nearby (I never saw where). About halfway up the hill I was gasping for air and felt like I was choking on the smoke. I finished the climb, but my lungs felt like they were on fire. Last night I'd forgotten about that incident, and I told Lisa I thought I might be getting sick because I had a sore throat. This morning my throat is still sore, and it just dawned on me that the smoke is likely the reason for my sore throat. I can't believe that I used to inhale that crap on purpose.

Hey, it's Friday: the weekend is almost here and I get to deadlift this afternoon! Doesn't get much better than that. Enjoy!

Transformation Spotlight of the Month

For the July 2010 Transformation Spotlight I've selected forum member Ecrivain. If I had to describe Ecrivain's transformation in a single word, it would be "incredible", but even a powerful word like that seems woefully inadequate considering just how much this man has accomplished over the past few years. A few short years ago Ecrivain weighed 370 pounds and was on a fast-track to a very early grave. Check out his incredibly inspiring and candid interview and learn how he lost more than 150 pounds of fat and went from barely being able to walk to running marathons!

My Before, During & Current Pictures

These two pictures were taken on the very first day of my transformation--January 6, 2003.

Before

These two pictures were taken just a few short months later. I'd lost over 50 pounds of fat, and added muscle. Amazing changes are possible in a relatively short period of time if you are willing to work hard and dedicate yourself.

After Fatloss

These pictures show how I look after over four years dedicated to a healthy lifestyle.
